That wasn’t the question

January 2, 2023

Still glowing from our wedding in January, Whit and I packed our bags to fly to Virginia Beach for a cousin’s Bar Mitzvah in June of 1998. We parked at the Hartford airport, checked our bags and headed to the gate. After a few minutes, an announcement was made that our flight would be delayed. The delay would cause us to miss our connecting flight. So, we headed to the gate desk to solve the problem.

After waiting in line and watching travelers in front of us berate the gate agent for the delay we approached the desk. PSA-it isn’t the gate agent’s fault that the flight was delayed. Yelling, stomping and making demands of the agent will only hurt your chances of a happy travel ending. Whit asked the agent how his day was going and received a “just terrific” response. We presented our situation to the agent and with a few taps and clicks he found us new flights getting us to Virginia Beach just a little behind schedule. Yay!

The agent looked at us and asked for us to describe our baggage so they could pull it off of the old flight and move it to the new flight. Whit described his bag and the agent looked at me waiting for my description.

“It’s the kind of bag that you buy at Crate and Barrel.  You know, lots of side zippers and compartments, soft sided,” I said.

Whit looked at me, gently patted my head and said, “Honey, he doesn’t give a shit where you bought the bag. Just tell him what color it is!”

The gate agent laughed out loud and said, “You made my day! Just for that I am upgrading you both to first class.”

Tomorrow, January 3, 2023, Whit and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. 25 years of me listing all the ingredients and Whit just wanting to know what’s for dinner. Cheers to another 25 years!
